Postdoctoral scholars and research fellows.

Policy Purpose and Description  

Postdoctoral scholar and research fellow appointments are approved by the Associate Dean for Research and Infrastructure in CLAS and are administered by the Graduate College at the University of Iowa. 

Postdoctoral positions are appointed for an initial appointment of one year, with the possibility of renewal. Reappointments can be made in increments of up to one year, with a maximum cumulative appointment of five years.

All other terms of postdoctoral appointments are governed by the Graduate College.

Definitions  

There are three types of postdoctoral appointees at the University of Iowa: postdoctoral scholars (FP01), NRSA postdoctoral fellows (FP02), and non-NRSA postdoctoral fellows (FP03). For a description of these please visit the Graduate College website.
