Procedure

Postdoctoral scholars may be appointed as Postdoctoral Research Scholars (FP01) or Postdoctoral Research Fellows (FP02). For a description of these two UI HR classifications, visit What is a Postdoctoral Scholar?

CLAS and the Graduate College highly recommend that newly appointed postdocs be paid according to the salaries set by the NIH/NRSA salary guidelines. PIs may pay above the minimum salaries recommended in the guidelines. If for some reason the PI cannot meet this salary standard, a letter of justification must be attached to the Postdoctoral Request to Hire.

CLAS expects that all of its postdoctoral scholars have an Individual Development Plan (IDP)

CLAS and the Graduate College are concerned that current postdoctoral scholars be compensated equitably and encourage departments to bring their salaries into alignment with new hires.
