Definitions
Fixed-term instructor positions (FH14 - Instructor) are made in the college to provide ongoing instruction in an area. A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required for appointment; the individual is not required to hold a terminal degree. Instructors who are appointed on an academic year basis for at least one academic year at 50% or greater effort, will be appointed with full UI Benefits.
Procedure
Appointment: Appointments shall be made for up to one year. Reappointment is possible in one-year increments, subject to positive performance evaluations and educational need. Requests for new and continuing Instructors in a department should be submitted in the CLAS MAX system annually.
Search Requirements: The college requires all benefit eligible instructor appointment positions to be appointed via a regional or national search.
Salary: Salary for new Instructors shall be based on the departmental Instructor salary chart.
Annual Review: Instructors will receive an annual review from their department. Departments submit the Annual Instructor Review Form to the Dean’s Office in the spring of each academic year in which the instructor has been appointed. The form includes organized courses taught in the past year, questions based on review of syllabus, course materials, and student evaluations of teaching, and the reviewer’s comments on teaching. The college does not require an annual teaching observation as part of this review.
